The Ironworkers Training Center

Ironworkers are employed in five related segments of the trade: Structural Ironworkers, Reinforcing Ironworkers, Ornamental Ironworkers, Riggers & Machinery Movers, and Specialty Building Erectors. The road to becoming a Journeyman Ironworker is through Apprenticeship Training. This training is a well-organized and supervised method of training people, that have little or no knowledge of the craft. Apprentices attend classes & supplemental instruction consisting of 208 hours per year for four years. These classes are held one full week every 12 weeks. Apprenticeship is regulated by the Office of Apprenticeship, U.S. Department of Labor.

There are many benefits to be gained through the Iron Workers Training Centers. Some of which are:

  • An opportunity to learn a trade in the most respected craft of the building and construction trades.
  • An opportunity to become a union member of the International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing Ironworkers.
  • The opportunity to “earn” journeyman status which is recognized throughout the United States and Canada. This journeyman status is security for you and your family for life.
  • The advantage of fair and reasonable wage and fringe benefits such as health and welfare, pension, annuity and vacation pay

The recruitment, selection, employment and training of apprentices is without discrimination because of race, color, religion, national origin or sex.

There are several things expected of Ironworkers Apprentices – complete cooperation & willingness to learn, regular school attendance, dependability on the job, a day’s work for a day’s pay.

Safety is of paramount concerns, as such several Safety courses are offered during Apprenticeship Training and during the course of an Ironworkers career. The apprentice is expected to complete OSHA 30, MSH 24, along with First Aid & CPR
